Where are they now??

We like to think of the salon as an extended family. Sometimes people come and go but we always try to stay in touch. Kelly and Ashleigh were such a special part of that family and we get asked about them often, so here is a little life update from them in their own words.

Kelly-

“I’ve always had the nomadic spirit, wanting to experience new places and meet new people! I moved from Springfield to Big Sky, Montana the winter of 2016 and worked at a ski resort in the heart of the mountains. After the season ended in April, I moved to Denver in the spring of 2017. I am currently living here in Denver and a full-time educator at the Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School. I also work part time two days a week at The Dry Bar in Cherry Creek. I am grateful for all the opportunities and humble to know that my heart and home always will be in Missouri. I love and miss all my AVBS friends, family and guest! ❤️”

Ashleigh-“I am currently working at a L’Oréal Professional Salon in the St. Louis area, Dominic Michal Salon est. 1982. I am the companies Front Desk Team Lead so I oversee all front desk staff members for both locations and work up front full time. I wanted a different challenge within the industry and it definitely is! I miss being behind the chair everyday, but I get my fix when I travel home to do hair for my family. I am definitely looking forward to what the future holds and how far this opportunity will take me! I miss my AVBS fam every day 💕”

We miss you girls!

Giant Spring Fashion Post Part 2!

Hey ladies!! We’re back with more Spring trends!

Let’s talk about what’s on trend for your hair this season!

Baby Lights are a sweet way to brighten your hair this Spring. If you want to go blonde for summer, now is the time to start your blonding journey. (Plenty of time to go slow and steady to keep your hair healthy!)

For the last few years we’ve seen the ombré and balayage everywhere now we’re seeing those lighter pieces creep up a little closer to your scalp. Here are a few of my favs:

Back to fashion…Mules are the shoe for the season and they are everywhere in every fabric and style you can imagine, here are some I’m loving.

(left to right top then bottom, Steve Madden, Snapp Rose Suede Leather Mule $79, Joie, Wanda Tassel Mules, Available from Shop Bop $188, Free People, Fleetwood Mule, and Charlotte Olympia, Verdant Slipper, $625)

The sunnies trend is big and square. Love these from the Gap ($14.00)

And last but not least, as promised, here’s a peek into my own Spring shopping cart. Loving all the hunter green this season!

(Left to Right Top row first: Banana Republic, racer back Tank $32, Chaco maya $61, Old Navy, Rockstar Jeans in Camo, $34.99, and a fun little sundress I found on Amazon for $21! … the brand is Vamberfia)

Giant Spring Fashion Post. Part One.

If you’re like me, now that the sun is peeking out from behind the clouds, you’re ready to fill your closet with all things Spring. Here’s a look at what I’m seeing in stores for the coming season so you can update your wardrobe and stay on trend. (Including all the splurges and all the steals, because Mama Sandwell always wants a deal.)

I’m seeing a step away from the usual pastels and a step towards more dark florals and gingham. Love the dark florals!(Poppy Bloom Shired Keyhole Blouse, Loft $59.50)

And the wallet friendly alternative:(Cold shoulder button up, Charlotte Ruse, $21.50)

Gingham is huge this season and so are these gauzy breezy fabrics. I love these two looks that mix the best of both.

(Left: Molly Smocked Gingham Mini Dress, UO, $59.00. Right: Sleeveless Ruffle-trim Shirtdress, Old Navy $32.00)

Denim and Chambray are always big for spring. I’m dying over these jeans by Free People. (Penny-Pull on Flare, $78.00). The top fits more like high waisted yoga pants. They look so comfy. (If you’re local, I saw these at Dillard’s available in worn white and black)

And if you need the look for less, Forever 21 has you covered (Frayed Flaired Jeans, $32.90).

Overalls are still happening, although I still have mixed feelings about them. Less so in denim than colors and prints. These are from American Eagle.

(Aerie Eyelet Overall, $54.95 $40 on sale now!)

In hemlines, shorts seem like they are slightly longer, with lots of high waisted options. Which is nice because shirt hemlines are hitting square at the waist, instead of the longer dropped hem. As for cuts of fabric, it’s ruffles on ruffles. Bell sleeves and ruffled hems are everywhere. (In fact just try to find a shirt for spring without a ruffle on it somewhere I dare you.)

(Left to right top row first: Beckett Tiered Bell Sleeve Top by WAYF, available from Nordestrom, $69.00. Crotchet Ruffle Top, Pink Pineapple Clothing Company, available from Jane.com. Off-The-Shoulder-Lace-Trim-Peasant-Top by M Made in Italy available from Dillard’s $95.00. Wrap Front Ruffle Sleeve Top, American Eagle $39.95)

One of my favorite trends this season is a high neck tank top. I love anything that’s affordable and easy to dress up or down. Here are two of my fav’s

So cute and sooo budget friendly. (Left: Xhiliration Lace Tank Top, from Target $22.99. Right: Chandler Crochet Tunic by Liam and Co available from Jane.com $18.99)

That’s all for this week. Next week, we’ll check on Spring hair trends, shoes, and accessories as well as a peek at what’s in my spring shopping cart! -What are you shopping for this season?!

Solve My Problem.

We have all had THAT day. When you walk out of the salon feeling incredible because your hair is doing things you never dreamed it could.

…We have all had the morning after, where we wash out our fabulous salon blowout and are left with our regular old normal, boring, limp hair.

What is the difference?? Well, products.. techniques.. years of practice..

Don’t get discouraged. There is hope. Today I’m going to pass on a few tips to give you salon hair at home.

Here are 3 problems my clients ask about..

Problem 1.

“I want bangs, but I don’t want to wash my hair everyday”

Ahh yes! Bangs! Such a low commitment, big impact change! But people (especially those of you who work out everyday) hate that 90% of their hair looks amazing the day after a shampoo and their bangs look like a greasy hot mess. Nobody wants to have to wash and blow dry their hair everyday.

Here is the secret. (You ready? Because I’m about to change your life)

Just.

Wash.

Your.

Bangs.

Seriously. Lean over a sink. Get them wet, smoosh a handful of shampoo on them, rinse and blow dry. (I actually timed it. It takes 2 minutes) -2- minutes!! Instead of an hour of the full wash and dry that’s going to leave the rest of your hair overly fluffy. Work smarter, not harder guys. (One of my clients actually taught me this and on her behalf -you’re welcome.) #littlevictory

Problem #2 “Why is my hair so flat?”

Most of us have hair that looks something like this beautiful girl on the left and we desire something closer to the hair on the right..

There is a happy medium between these two pictures and the secret is Paul Mitchell Extra Body Daily Boost ($15).

But chances are there is a magic trick no one’s told you about it. Here’s the thing, after you wash and towel dry your hair, spray this on your scalp where you want to see volume. Then you blow dry. But here is the magic trick. After your hair is dry, spray this on your roots near your part line, and blow dry it AGAIN. Boom watch the big hair magic happen. #yourwelcome

Problem 3. “I want to wear my hair up, but my scalp shows”

Yes. Thanks to Pinterest, these boho braids and loose half up half down looks are everywhere. But even people with THICK hair have scalp lines that can show. Here is the secret.

Style Edit ($18) is a pigmented spray that comes in several colors that you can use to conceal your roots as your color grows out. It has a matte finish with an almost powder like feel when it dries. You can also spray this on those pesky scalp lines to conceal them. It makes your hair look thicker, fuller and oh so boho.

Hope this helps! What other hair problems would you like us to solve??
